Over the last few days a lot of people have had their bubble burst on both sides. A lot of Conservatives now think that everything is way more complicated then they had thought. And, a lot of Liberals are waking up to the fact that we are stuck with Iraq and Bush.

It's a lot to deal with.

Impeachment, Elections, Victory

1) There is no connection between 9/11 and Iraq

2) GW Bush lied to the American Public about WMD's in Iraq, Saddam's supposed links to 9/11, and Saddam's supposed links to Al Qaeda.

3) Bush needs to be impeached for, at the very least, LYING to the American Public about the reasons for going to War with Iraq.

4) We need to finish the job in Iraq. We need more troops on the ground, the troops must be well equiped, and injured troops MUST receive adequate medical care.

5) Our current leadership (Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld) have proven to be incapable of winning the War in Iraq.

6) Therefore, GW Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld must all be removed from office so that we can finish the job in Iraq and do it right.

Been watching the Span lately? If you have you may have noticed Democrats holding hearings on important issues. They keep saying, "we have to have hearings like this because the appropriate committees wont hold them".

What are Democrats doing? Exactly what we hired them to do. They are conducting oversight hearings because the Republicans wont.

They are fighting the only way they can to embarrass the Republicans into having real hearings.

If they wont do their jobs the DGE will do it without them.

Democrats are eyeing several parliamentary maneuvers to prod Congress into investigating the so-called Downing Street memo and other recently disclosed documents that they contend shows that the Bush administration manipulated prewar intelligence to build support for the war in Iraq.

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly said that Americans "must know the difference between dissent from the Iraq war and the war on terror and undermining it," and that "any American who undermines that war ... is a traitor." He then hurled this accusation at Air America Radio: "So, all those clowns at the liberal radio network, we could incarcerate them immediately. Will you have that done, please? Send over the FBI and just put them in chains, because they, you know, they're undermining everything and they don't care."

Bill O'riely Lies about WWII casualties, He has no shame

I heard Bill O'riely lie today. What a shocker.

I was listening to him and he was talking about WWII. He said, "in the first 2 years of WWII the press was not allowed to report casualty figures".

But, because I am a history nut I remembered reading this:

Mao Tse Tung once said, "power comes from the barrel of a gun". What did Mao mean?

In the final analysis the power of the State comes from it's ability to arrest, incarcerate, and execute you.

The founding fathers understood that liberty comes from Due Process and equality under the law. Protection from illegal search and seizure, your right to a speedy trial by a jury of your peers, the right to face your accusers and to present evidence in your defense. These things make up the line in the sand between liberty and authoritarianism.

The prisoners at Gitmo have been denied all these rights. How long will it take before you are denied them too?

A New Approach

New Approach

I am suggesting a new approach to Republicans, although it is nothing new.

On Thursday Night I was listening to Mike Romigh's show on KDKA. He is one of the few liberal talk show hosts that are not part of a big network. He was talking about how some Democrats spend a big chunk of their time chasing after Republicans, writing down everything they say and trying to prove them wrong. (That would be many of us in the blogosphere) Calling into talk radio, just to throw something back in Hannity or O'Reilly's face.

Mr. Romigh suggested many things that seem commonsense to us. He said just to simply ignore the Republicans. Stop writing about Republicans, don't focus on what they are doing; focus on what Democrats are doing. Don't call their stations, don't listen to their shows because all you are doing is encouraging them by writing about them and calling into their shows, you are supporting them and giving them publicity.

I agree with this. I try not to write about Republicans, but sometimes it is hard to resist. So I suggest that we all just stop talking about Republicans, because who cares about them? We have other things to worry about, like the destruction of our country. From now on, I will try to focus on the Democrats' actions, instead of the Republicans and their screwy policies. I hope you all will do the same.

The warning, in a leaked Cabinet Office briefing paper, said Tony Blair had already agreed to back military action to get rid of Saddam Hussein at a summit at the Texas ranch of President George W Bush three months earlier.

The briefing paper, for participants at a meeting of Blair’s inner circle on July 23, 2002, said that since regime change was illegal it was “necessary to create the conditions” which would make it legal."

Terror allegations disappear from charges

The Los Angeles Times reports that the Federal Bureau of Invesigation apparently gave the media a different, far more damaging version of an affidavit against a Lodi, California father and son charged with lying to federal officials than the one that was finally given to a court in Sacramento Thursday.

The affidavit filed Thursday did not contain any of the sensation material from earlier in the week which said the son's "potential terrorist targets included hospitals and groceries, and contained names of key individuals and statements about the international origins of 'hundreds' of participants in alleged Al Qaeda terrorist training camps in Pakistan."

Attorneys for the two men now say they will challenge the government on this discrepancy, which they say as a deliberate move by the FBI to prejudice the case against their clients. Defense attorney Johnny Griffin III, who represents the father, Umer Hayat, accused the government of "releasing information it knew it could not authenticate." The FBI said the different versions were the result of "unfortunate oversight due to miscommunication."

- Democratic division? Since when have Democrats ageee to anything but to disagree. We like the debate. We have a big tent.

- Disrespectful comments about Republicans or the Republican President? If they can't take the heat, they must be feeling pretty vunerable or guilty about something. This is politics not Sunday school.

- The Republicans are raising more money than Democrats? We raise money at the grassroots as we need it. We don't need to take bribes from corporations or the wealthy.

George Bush and his band of merry morons have demonstrated they are incapable or unwilling to win the war in Iraq.

They were happy to destroy the country, but couldn't find it in their shriveled little hearts to help keep people alive afterwards.

Let's take this claim by claim.

1.) "Number of detainees in U.S. custody since Sept. 11, 2001: 68,000."
This number includes Iraqi prisoners of war as well as detainees.

2.) "Number of criminal investigations into alleged mistreatment by U.S. personnel: 370."
This is true.

3.) "Number of U.S. servicemen and servicewomen who have served in Iraq, Afghanistan, U.S. detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba: 525,000."
This is everyone in the military who served in these areas. Notice he does not give the number of guards or military police who actually came in contact with the detainees.

4.) "Number of U.S. servicemen and servicewomen found to have treated detainees illegally: Less than 0.1 percent, which works out to fewer than 525. Actually, about 130 have been punished as a result of investigations."
Because claim number 3 is misleading this statistic is totally meaningless. How many prison guards are there?


You can clearly see Rumsfeld said a lot of nothing, but it sounded good so the AP picked it up without any fact checking.
